New York’s Olde English Spelling Bee label commences a busy summer with two new LP releases, from Julian Lynch and Pigeons, and the inauguration of a new 7″ single series.

Julian Lynch released his first LP proper, Orange You Glad, on OESB last year, following it with a Ducktails split 7″ and Zodiac Toys split cassette.  His new full-length is entitled Mare; it’s worth getting hold of for the equine cover art alone (detail pictured above), though it must be said that the prismatic guitar psychedelia contained within is pretty formidable as well. Pigeons might have one of the worst band names of all time, but their music is sublime, female-vocalled indie-pop that manages to expertly avoid tweeness, and will likely appeal to fans of Young Marble Giants, The Vaselines and early Belle & Sebastian. Check out the Natalie Rodgers-directed video for ‘Fade Away’:

You can find more info on the Julian Lynch and Pigeons LPs, and download a free track from each, over at the OESB blog. They’re both out on June 28.

Meanwhile the label launches its new 7″ series with a four-tracker from New Jersey’s Big Troubles. You can download two of the four tracks, ‘Bad People’ and ‘Drastic And Difficult’, here, free of charge.
