A new track reportedly produced by Dr Dre and evidently featuring vocals from Jay-Z has emerged on the internet.
Entitled ‘Under Pressure’, the track samples Kraftwerk and touches upon lyrical subjects including Tiger Woods, Gilbert Arenas and “living each day like it’s the weekend”. You can stream or download a tagged and edited version of it here.
Dre did speak some time ago about having completed a track called ‘Under Pressure’, but given that we’ve been waiting 11 years and counting for his long-mooted Detox LP, we took the claim with a pinch of salt.
On first listen ‘Under Pressure’ doesn’t pack quite the punch of the best tracks from Dre’s world-beating 2001, but it’s not a major disappointment either. Indeed, its combination of rugged, avowedly 90s-rooted beats and looped, tranced-out synths is as addictive as it is brutally simplistic; the absence of any kind of inane, sing-songy chorus is a bonus. Take a listen.
