The Hansa International label has reissued Harry Thumann‘s classic 1983 album, Andromeda.

Thumann, who was born Harald Thumann in 1953 and died in 2001, was a German musician and sound engineer. As well as making two albums, Andromeda and 1979’s American Express, he designed radical new synthesizers and studio equipment throughout his life – including the SSL 4000 series of consoles. Andromeda found Thumann making use of a self-built Commodore 64-based, MIDI-controlled synthesizer installation (as well as a Fairlight II and Moog 3C modular system – cheers Wikipedia).

The album has earned a considerable cult following over the past 27 years, repped by DJ Harvey and Daniel Wang among others, and its cosmic disco-style grooves sound as rich and transporting now as ever. Great cover art n’all.
