Bleep43, the regular party that has provided London techno fiends’ with some of their most memorable nights out in recent years, is launching an eponymous record label.
Bleep43 Recordings‘ first release is entitled EP 001, and will be released on 12″ vinyl on October 4. The lead track is by ERP, the electro-leaning alter ego of Texas’s Gerard Hanson, best known for his work as Convextion. Hanson is a regular performer at Bleep43’s nights, and the track he contributes to EP 001 is a typically measured but emotive affair – simply top-notch electronic music by a modern master.
The other three tracks on the EP come from core members of the London-centric Bleep43 collective. Plant43, who also designed the artwork for the release, contributes ‘Teflon Jacket’, a moody cut that occupies the space between electro and the heyday of IDM and will appeal to fans of his fine work on the Ai label. Newcomer Orphan, who impressed with a live set at Bleep43 in December of last year, delivers a sensuous, elegantly restrained techno groover, ‘View From Delfgauw’, on the 12″‘s B-side, and Jo Johnson rounds out proceedings EP with ‘Coarse Materials’, a track which reminds us of Drexciya at their most light-footed.
The launch party for the release is the next Bleep43 party on Friday 1 October, which boasts a world-beating line-up. The focal point of the night is a live set from Urban Tribe (pictured above), the Detroit group that’s anchored by DJ Stingray and features contributions from Moodymann, Carl Craig, Heinrich Mueller (Dopplereffekt) and Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir. The personnel for the live incarnation of Urban Tribe is under wraps, but expect more than your fair share of legends on stage.
Also on the bill: Convextion, whose live sets are routinely sublime experiences – have a snaffle on the web for a download of his classic show at Manchester’s Faktion if you don’t believe us. Another FACT favourite, Danny Wolfers AKA Legowelt, will be performing a set of material made under his Franz Falckenhaus guise. Wolfers’ friend and fellow Hague-dweller, not to mention recent FACT mixer, DJ Overdose is also on board to deliver the best in old-school hip-hop, electro and WBMX sounds; there’s also a scheduled appearance from up-and-coming Belgian producer Mariska. Oh, and is if all that international talent isn’t enough, the UK’s Plant43, Matt Whitehead, Matilda, Toby Frith and Dan Bean bring up the rear.
