The next single to be taken from Matthew Dear’s impeccably sleazy Black City LP is ‘You Put A Smell On Me’.
In its original form an industrial thumper faintly reminiscent of Depeche Mode, hostly International have commissioned remixes from two very different artists: Nicolas Jaar, of perma-hyped house crew Wolf+Lamb, and Ed Banger’s resident boogie fiend Breakbot. The former’s version is an exercise in minimalist restraint, the latter’s a balls-out electro-funk juggernaut as irresistible as it is preposterous. The single is out this week on 12″ and download, and also includes a smart dub by Dear which retools ‘You Put A Smell On Me”s for the club without compromising its paranoid, priapic character.
