Jessie J has been announced as the winner of the BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll.
The 22-year-old tops the list, which was compiled from the recommendations of 160 influential music critics, broadcasters and bloggers. A decidedly poppy choice, Jessie has already co-written a US hit for Miley Cyrus, enjoyed a top 30 single of her own in the UK, starred on the West End stage, as well as being awarded the Brit Awards’ Critics’ Choice.
The top 5 artists in the Sound of 2011 poll have been revealed over the course of this week. James Blake, soon to release his self-titled debut album, came in at #2, while NME-adored indie outfit The Vaccines came in at third, Jamie Woon took #4 and Clare Maguire weighed in at #5.
Previous winners of the BBC Sound of… poll include 50 Cent, Keane, Mika, Adele, Little Boots and Ellie Goulding.
