Steffi will release her debut album, Yours & Mine, on February 7 via Ostgut Ton.
The Panorama Bar resident has long been one of underground house music’s most formidable DJs, and her consistently brilliant podcasts – for the likes of To The Bone and MNML SSGS – have helped cement her reputation. While she also runs the Klakson (out of her native Holland) and Dolly labels, it’s only recently that she’s turned her hand to production, announcing her arrival with the track ‘Kill Me’ (boasting guest vocals from Elif Bicer and included on Tama Sumo’s 2009 Panorama Bar mix CD) and then contributing ‘My Room’ to Ostgut’s recent Fünf compilation. She has also released EPs on Jus-Ed’s New York imprint Underground Quality and was also part of the Third Side project on Restoration alongside Italian artists Marieu and Lucretio.
Yours & Mine is, as expected, focussed on the kind of warm, analogue-driven house grooves that Steffi’s DJ sets are famous for; deep, certainly, but gritty too. Unlike so many of her peers, Steffi instinctively understands the importance of melody in house, and that really comes across in soaring, pop-infused tracks like ‘Lilo’ and ‘Yours’. The latter track has been knocking around on “anonymous” white label for some months, and is one of two on the album that features vocals from Virginia Högl (the other being ‘You Own My Mind’). Other stand-outs come in the shape of the string-drenched ‘Mine’ and ‘Arms’.
The album will be released on CD, 2xLP and digital formats.
