Carl Craig’s was named as part of Field Day 2011’s line-up last month, but the festival’s organisers have now confirmed that he’ll be playing a special live set drawing exclusively on 69 material.
69 (say it “six-nine”) is the alias under which Craig has created some of his most iconic work: including ‘Jam The Box’, ‘Sound On Sound’, 4 Jazz Funk Greats and, in 1994’s ‘Desire’, one of the greatest Detroit techno tracks of all time. Having released a 69 vinyl box set in 2009, Craig is performing the classics live in only four cities worldwide (loosely) as part of the ongoing 20th anniversary celebrations of his Planet E label. His appearance Field Day in this capacity is a UK exclusive, and a “retina-popping” visual accompaniment to the set is promised.
Other highlights of the thoroughly excellent Field Day programme this year are James Blake, Mount Kimbie, Electrelane, Oneohtrix Point Never, The Horrors, Martin Creed, Michael Mayer, Hype Williams, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Sun Ra Arkestra, Ducktails, Benga, Zola Jesus, Omar Souleyman, Pearson Sound, John Cale and Faust.
