Tindersticks are to release a box set on April 26 collecting thirteen years of soundtrack work for French film director Claire Denis.
Since meeting Denis in Paris in 1995, Nottingham’s Tindersticks have composed and recorded original music for six of her films, most recently 2009’s acclaimed White Material (starring Isabelle Huppert, pictured). If, like us and so many others, you’ve always admired Tindersticks’ music but found Stuart Staples torrid baritone hard to stomach, then the all-instrumental Claire Denis Film Scores 1996-2009 is for you – an emotive, evocative blend of post-rock, folk, chamber jazz, blues, modern classical and ambient influences.
It’s rather an epic release – available in 5xCD and 5xLP editions courtesy of Constellation Records. It collects the six feature-length scores for White Material, 35 Rhums, L’Intrus, Vendredi Soir, Trouble Every Day and Nenette Et Boni.
Each CD or LP is housed in uncoated cardstock duotone-print sleeve with silver spot ink, in foil-embossed double-wall slip box with die-cut window, hand-made from 550gsm/25pt all-black, brushed-finish uncoated board. All using 100% recycled papers, apparently. Within the box you’ll also find a 64pp booklet featuring colour film stills and an essay by Michael Hill.
The vinyl edition includes two posters and is limited to 1000 copies. You can pre-order the vinyl and CD here, and preview nine tracks below.
