Some highlights of the month ahead’s forthcoming singles.
January’s debut single from Berlin-based dubstep producer Objekt remains one of the best records of 2011, even prompting speculation that it was the work of a more established artist (though it seems he’s just a dude called TJ – as is life). Preorders have started to spring up on record stores for Objekt’s second single, ‘CLK Recovery’ – none of them with release date as yet, but late May/early June seems likely. You can stream clips of both ‘CLK Recovery’ and its B-side, the deranged ‘Unglued’ (which you may know from Pangaea’s FACT mix), below.
Bok Bok, one half of the team behind Night Slugs, is yet to release a full record on the label, instead sticking to white label remixes. That will change on May 31 when he releases the Southside EP, an adrenaline shot of heavily grime-influenced club music sporting five tracks: ‘Charisma Theme’, ‘Hyperpass’, ‘Reminder’, ‘Silo Pass’ and ‘Look (dub)’. That’s the digital tracklist; the vinyl will presumably be shorter.
Others in brief:
- Garage legends Steve Gurley and Zed Bias have teamed up for a collaborative single, ‘Roll’ on Blackdown’s Keysound label (May 20 release)
- Nottingham label Wigflex have announced a one-sided 12″ by Lone, titled ‘All Those Weird Things’
- Mala, one half of Digital Mystikz, has remixed two Lee “Scratch” Perry tracks for a Perry vs DMZ single (May 20)
- Jon Convex, one half of Instra:mental, will release his first solo single, the Convexations EP, for 3024 (June 13)
- T. Williams and Breach have teamed up for a collaborative single on PTN, ‘2 Bob Note’. The B-side is Williams’ remix of Breach’s ‘Fatherless’ (June 20)
- Jet black techno specialist, Szare, is on the buttons for the new 12″ from Bristol label Idle Hands (June 6)
