Sigur Ros to screen short film project on all seven continents

Yes, even Antartica.

The culmination of the Icelandic group’s Mystery Film Experiment series is a program of 17 short films that will air across the world in “cinemas, cinema-like spaces, rock clubs, hardware stores, hairdresser salons, and beyond” on December 7-9.

To coincide with Valtari, the band gave a dozen filmmakers the same budget and asked them to create a short film inspired by the songs on the album in an attempt to “bypass the usual artistic approval process” and maximize creative freedom. Along with international filmmakers like Alma Har’el and Ramin Bahrani, the band also invited fans to submit their videos.

The full list of events is available on Sigur Ros’ website. In 2013, the band will tour Europe with Blanck Mass.
