Will the Bawse be able to follow in the shoes of ‘Man Or Muppet’?

As Rolling Stone report, the 75-strong shortlist for Best Original Song at the 2013 Academy Awards has been announced. Rick Ross gets a nod for ‘100 Black Coffins’, plucked from the OST for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, as does Fiona Apple for This Is 40‘s ‘Dull Tool’. Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O is up for ‘Strange Love’ (Frankenweenie), Arcade Fire feature for ‘Abraham’s Daughter’ (The Hunger Games) and Adele gets a predictable shout-out for the Skyfall theme.

The Black Keys’ ‘The Baddest Man Alive’, taken from RZA’s directorial debut The Man With The Iron Fists, also appears. Other nominees include Katy Perry, Mumford & Sons and Norah Jones. The shortlist will be announced at the nominations ceremony on January 10, with the awards taking place on February 24.

The Best Original Song category has been revamped for 2013 following controversy over last year’s bizarrely narrow shortlist. Video of 2006’s unlikely winners Three 6 Mafia picking up their Oscar is below, and remains as wonderful as ever.
