Lepidopterists, look away now.

Scottish rabble-rousers Primal Scream are set to release new album More Light in May. Lead single ‘2013’ was premiered earlier today on Lauren Laverne’s BBC6Music show, and a video for the track has now hit the web.

‘2013’ isn’t that different in spirit from the rootsy rock of Give Out But Don’t Give Up or Riot City Blues, although some warped production touches and TVOTR-friendly saxophone suggest the hand of David Holmes. My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields – who, you might have seen, has been busy – contributes guitar. Shields previously contributed to Primal Scream’s XTRMNTR LP, and was responsible for the 2011 remaster of the band’s landmark Screamadelica.

The oblique clip features mutliated butterflies, tantruming models and trussed flesh. The album, meanwhile, will feature an extended version of the track, running to over nine minutes. More Light is due on May 6. [via Pitchfork]
