Getting a blessing from The-Dream is pretty much proof that you’re about to succeed, and that’s exactly what’s happened to August Alsina.

The young singer has been putting the time in for a while now, with last years mixtape The Product turning a few heads and an appearance on DJ Spinz’ stunning round-up of Atlanta rap HPG 2, but it’s since being snapped up by Def Jam that things have really started to pick up. ‘Let Me Hit That’ might not be the most creative ode to the green we’ve ever heard, but it easily slots Alsina into the hazy R&B subgenre along with Jeremih, Miguel and of course The-Dream himself. The track is a taster of forthcoming tape The Product II, and wisely for a track dedicated to weed, it features a guest appearance from perma-stoned rapper Curren$y. [via Dummy]

The Product II is due to drop on May 6.
