Following a string of releases on Planet Mu and 100% Silk, Ital drops his first EP for Berlin label Workshop.

Lead track ‘Ice Drift (Stalker Mix)’ bears the hallmarks of Ital’s production style thus far, with blurry, soft-focus textures loosely woven around a throbbing bass, while ‘Pulsed’ sounds exactly as it should, with cascading synths driven by a warm low-end thump. ‘Slower Degrees of Separation’ finally takes things to molasses-speed, moving the record into an ambient dimension.

The arrival of the EP on Workshop – whose catalogue includes releases from Kassem Mosse and Lowtec – confirms that Ital, formerly one half of Thrill Jockey duo Mi Ami, is still in a purple patch following the release of two full-lengths on Planet Mu last year – Dream On and Hive Mind.

FACT’s Angus Finlayson caught up with Ital and his visual collaborator Aurora Halal last year to chat about reviews, recording with Hieroglyphic Being, how to make electronic live shows work and more. Check out an all-vinyl mix the producer made last year, too.

To preview the tracks, head to Hard Wax.
