The disco legend has always loved Afrobeat.

So he teamed up with erstwhile Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen and Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango and made a record.

“I was always deeply influenced by Afro-Rock music, Cerrone told Pitchfork. “This is because of the great artistic fingerprint of my first band, Kongas, in which I spent four years before starting my solo career with Love in C Minor.”

Featuring six propulsive tracks in thrall to Afrobeat-style percussion, Afro still maintains Cerrone’s signature disco-funk sensibility and includes remixes from Todd Edwards and Mind Enterprises. There’s also a dance-heavy video for ‘Funk Makossa feat. Manu Dibango’.
