Banks adds some emotion to the brief, stock apology she issued earlier this year.

Azealia Banks has written an apology letter to Zayn Malik after she went on a racist tirade about the pop star back in May. It comes after Banks has been in the news this week having filed a battery report alleging she was attacked by actor Russell Crowe in his hotel room in Los Angeles: “Recent events have taught me the importance of taking accountability for one’s actions. I want and I need to say I am sorry, I was wrong.”

“Coming from an ethnicity that is largely discriminated again does not warrant a license to use derogatory, abusive terminology nor does it give me the right to make hurtful remarks,” she writes. “At times, I am so consumed by my own struggle, and the struggle of my race, that I forget to consider the hardships other minorities continue to endure.”

Her statement comes after she took to Facebook earlier today to dispute a defense of Crowe by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, who was also present in the hotel room where the alleged altercation would have taken place. “Whatever pieces are left of his brain after years and years of smoking dust stupidly allowed him to ramble himself into incriminating his friend, and completely debunking their entire made up theory,” she wrote, after accusing RZA of gaslighting her.

The letter to Zayn Malik is a clear shift in emotions. You can read her statement about RZA here and her letter to Zayn below.
