The PS4 hit gets a wider release.

Last year, Lightning Bolt’s founding members Brian Chippendale and Brian Gibson both realized longterm passion projects, the graphic novel Puke Force and the video game Thumper, respectively. Now, their label Thrill Jockey has announced a new vinyl release for Thumper‘s memorably chaotic score.

Developed with programmer Marc Flury, Thumper got a gorgeous limited edition soundtrack release last year from iam8bit. Thrill Jockey’s new edition doesn’t include the incredible Robert Beatty artwork, but it is significantly cheaper and easier to get (and, hey, the new artwork is cool too).

Like a hellish version of Amplitude, the early videogame from Rock Band creator and Gibson’s former employer Harmonix, the rhythm game’s hyperagressive rhythms and psychdelic visuals are a sensory overload. That’s only become truer since it got the VR treatment.

The new vinyl edition is out April 22 on translucent red vinyl. Pre-order it via Thrill Jockey and listen to the soundtrack below.
