Matthew Herbert’s taken some time away from his stint as head of the newly revived BBC Radiophonic Workshop to remix newcomer Hello Skinny, aka drummer and beatmaker Tom Skinner.

The two are intimately acquainted, with Skinner serving as one of Herbert’s sidemen on the latter’s high-concept One Pig LP. Skinner’s since made an appearance on the most recent instalment of Gilles Peterson’s tastemaking Brownswood Bubblers series, and will drop his debut LP on Slowfoot Recordings next month.

Hello Skinny’s original is a groggy bit of psych-pop. Herbert’s version, by contrast, is a martial affair, all rattling tribal drums and distant rumbles. The results might be called High Definition Dub: rolling bass spotted with delicately polished fragments of found sound. [via Electronic Beats]
