Warp’s latest signing sets the pace.

Nozinja is the musician and svengali behind the South African  dance movement dubbed Shangaan Electro, which first came to our attention via a definitive 2010 compilation from London label Honest Jon’s.

Since then the madcap sound of the country’s rural Limpopo region, easily identified by its plasticky synth marimbas and frantic drum fills, has only grown more frenetic, with tempos rising to 190 BPM and beyond. “This speed is abnormal,” as Nozinja told FACT last year.

Nozinja has just unveiled the video for his first single on Warp, ‘Tsekeleke’, which by Shangaan standards runs at a fairly leisurely pace – though it should still set a challenge for any brave DJs hoping to drop it into their own sets.  The video was filmed in Johannesburg and directed by Chris Saunders – watch it above.

‘Tsekeleke’ will appear on a 12″ later this year, but meanwhile Nozinja will bring his show to Europe again in April and May, kicking off at Bristol’s Start The Bus on April 29.

Tour dates:

April 29 – Bristol, Start The Bus
April 30 – Brighton, Bermuda Triangle
May 1 – Liverpool, Sound City
May 2 – Paris, La Machine du Moulin Rouge
May 3 – Krems, Donau Festival
May 4 – London, Electrowerkz
May 5 – Sheffield, The Harley
May 8 – Gent, Vooruit
May 9 – Berlin, Urban Spree
May 10 – Utrecht, Spiegelbar
