Ahead of his performance at Just Jam’s Barbican takeover this Saturday, we’re premiering a new mix by DJ Maboku.

Maboku might come last on the flyer for the event, but he could be the night’s secret weapon. A Lisbon resident originally from Angola, he counts DJs Marfox, Niggafox and Lilocox (who he collaborates with under the name CDM) amongst his peers, and has released on the high-ranking Príncipe label. He’s also a regular fixture at Príncipe’s monthly club nights.

His mix is 40-minutes of tumbling drums, flute riffs, vocal earworms and more – if you’ve ever been swept away by kurudo, gqom, Barcadi house and similar flips of the traditional house template, you’ll be all over this.

As well as Maboku, there’s a ton of different styles represented at the Barbican this weekend – Lit City young’un Drippin, footwork from Traxman and dancer Litebulb, grime from Mumdance, Novelist, JME, Big Narstie and Preditah, Jersey club from Uniique, and whatever the hell you’d bracket Omar Souleyman and a live collaboration between Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and Gang Gang Dance’s Brian Degraw as.
