A Cylon for your modular.

Eurorack manufacturers will do anything they can to stand out from the crowd, but Synthrotek‘s new robot voice effects unit is probably the first to reference ’70s sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica.

As well as featuring a light-up graphic based on the show’s mechanical Cylon enemies, the Roboto creates an array of robot vocal sounds, combining vocoder, pitch shifter, speak-n-spell effect, vibrato, 8-bit modulator and a bit crusher in one module.

This module is the ultimate robot voice effect for your Eurorack system

The module has two modes: robot and pitch. The first will add a sinister, lo-fi effect to any vocal, while the second will pitch the input up or down. There’s also a vibrato effect that can be applied to both modes, all of which are CV-activated.

According to Synthrotek’s video demonstration, it’ll also accept low signals from devices such as iPhones and Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator synths and boosts them, though the effect is more like the terrifying Max Headroom hack of 1987 than a Cylon.

Synthrotek is selling the Roboto for $149.99. You can pre-order it here – the module is expected to ship on March 10. [via Synthtopia]
