His latest album Jersey Devil was independently released last week.

Allegations of mistreatment of women have been made against former Real Estate member Matt Mondanile, aka Ducktails.

Mondanile, who co-founded the group in 2008 with his high school friends and fellow Ridgewood, NJ natives Alex Bleeker and Martin Courtney, announced he was leaving the band in 2016, noting he would devote himself more to his Ducktails project. A new statement from the current members of the band illuminates a different reason for Mondanile’s departure:

“Matt Mondanile was fired in February 2016 when allegations of unacceptable treatment of women were brought to our attention. While we urged him to seek counseling at the time of termination, we are no longer in contact. We feel that any abuse of one’s power or status to victimize another is completely unacceptable. We applaud the courage of the women who came forward to make us aware so that we could address the issue head on.”

Pitchfork reports that Mondanile disputes this claim.

According to a statement obtained by SPIN from an unnamed former publicist for Mondanile ceased working with him for the same reason:

“When I heard these allegations I spoke with the label and told them I could no longer work with him. The label suggested they would be doing the same. The band firing came later I believe. That was the end of my dealings with him. We never had contact again. He unfollowed me on social media, etc.”

SPIN notes they will be publishing a piece in the coming days “which includes stories from multiple women” about Mondanile. More as this story develops.
