Carl Craig signs up for quarterly residency at NYC's Verboten

The Detroit original has a new ‘party concept’ called ‘Somewhere in…’.

Carl Craig has announced a quarterly residency at Brooklyn’s newest nightspot Verboten.

Inspired by Mad Mike Bank’s Somewhere in Detroit record store, the ‘Somewhere In…’ parties began last summer with a one-off event on the Balearic island of Formentera, and now Craig is taking the concept to New York City and various locations around the world.

Joining Craig for the first event at Verboten on April 12 will be Davide Squillace, Martin Buttrich and Kenny Larkin.

The philosophy of the night, according to Craig, is thus: “For a party to be great, what matters is the purity of good music, the soundsystem that delivers it to your ears and the journey it takes you on. In the words of Funkadelic, “Free your mind and your ass will follow”. I want you to lose the time in your mind and do what your body wants you to – dance. Forget everything else and join my friends and I on a musical ride.”

The ‘Somewhere in…’ concept will also make an appearance at the Miami Winter Music Conference tomorrow (March 26) with Martin Buttrich, Moodymann and Stacey Pullen supporting Craig plus a second room hosted by Jackathon vs Hotflush.

FACT took Carl Craig record shopping in London last year, and he talked about tuning forks.
