MIA throws toys out of pram over NY Times article

Yesterday, The New York Times published an in-depth piece on MIA, titled MIA’s Agitprop Pop and written by Lynn Hirschberg.

The piece – in-depth and well written – wasn’t completely complimentary about MIA, containing quotes from ex-beau Diplo and more as it followed the singer through the making and promotion of new album / \ / \ / \ Y \ / \. Our favourite line: I kind of want to be an outsider,” [MIA] said, eating a truffle-flavored French fry.”

Anyway, if people had sympathy with MIA following the piece’s publication, then they’ve probably lost it with the singer now. Today MIA Tweeted “CALL ME IF YOU WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT THE N Y T TRUTH ISSUE, ill b taking calls all day bitches”, accompanied by a phone number, which judging by various reactions on Twitter, is Lynn Hirschberg’s.

As far as revenge plots go, it’s a pretty pathetic one. As far as promotional tactics go, it’s slightly more considered. Maybe MIA’s next Tweet will reveal which it was.

The piece was so badly written, I'm glad you hated it, because I certainly thought it was a waste of time. Journalists must be held accountable if they make up stuff. Sorry, but Team M.I.A. here.
