As has been well-publicised of late, some of Germany’s biggest clubs are currently in trouble due to new legislation from GEMA, the country’s performance rights organisation.
One of the country’s most iconic clubs, of course, is the double-headed beast of Berghain and Panorama Bar. This weekend, FACT TV went record shopping with Nick Höppner, label manager of Berghain / Panorama Bar’s in-house label Ostgut Ton (its artists include Marcel Dettmann, Shed, Ben Klock and more) and one of the club’s most renowned selectors, with his excellent Panorama Bar 04 mix CD out this month. We asked him whether a Berghain sound ever actually existed, how running the label has changed in his time at the club, and the latest on German clubbing’s dispute with GEMA.
You can catch Nick Höppner at The Hydra Ostgut Ton party in London on Friday 24th August – more information and tickets here.
