By , Aug 9 2012

This Is How We Walk On The Moon is the title of a forthcoming compilation of Arthur Russell covers.

A collaborative project from the Red Hot charity and Pitchfork, it’s set to feature contributions from Laurel Halo, Swedish pop queen Robyn, Washed Out, Hot Chip, Nico Muhly & Owen Pallett, Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, Cut Copy, Twin Shadow, Scissor Sisters, Jose Gonzalez, Devendra Banhart, Sam Amidon, Ólöf Arnalds, Sandro Perri, Thao & Tge Get Down Stay Down, Handsome Furs’ Dan Boeckner, Javelin
 and more to be announced.

Proceeds from the compilation, which is to be funded through Kickstarter (check the video call for contributions below) “will benefit Red Hot’s 22-year fight against AIDS”. Russell, of course, died of complications from AIDS in ’92, long before he would come to be so widely acknowledged as a musical visionary across several different genres and disciplines.
