Pusha T might be pretty confident about his name, but when it comes to his collaborators, there’s been some confusion.

Last week, FACT was one among a host of blogs and media outlets who reported that Pusha T’s excellent My Name Is My Name drop ‘King Push’ was produced by Joaquin Phoenix. That’s The Master/Gladiator/Her actor Joaquin Phoenix. We were as surprised as you were.

Erroneously, it turns out. As Pitchfork report, Phoenix has gone on record to clarify that he didn’t actually produce the track, despite Def Jam previously announcing that he had. Speaking to XXL, Phoenix said:

“While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit. A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye’s camp.”

Update: Pusha T updated Rap Radar on the credit confusion: “I believe it is the son of Lars Ulrich from Metallica,” he says. “I hope I’m not wrong this time. It was mistaken because it came from Joaquin.”

My Name Is My Name features Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Future, The-Dream, and more, with production by Kanye West, Hudson Mohawke and Swizz Beatz. Pusha T will release My Name Is My Name on October 8. Until then, you can stream it over at Myspace; the tracklist is below.
