Our money’s on Psy.

YouTube has announced the categories and nominations for its inaugural Music Awards show, which will be directed by Spike Jonze and broadcast from New York on November 3.

Musicians performing on the night will include M.I.A., Earl Sweatshirt, and Tyler, the Creator, who join previously announced acts Arcade Fire, Eminem, and Lady Gaga. The event will also feature performances from acts who found fame on YouTube, including violinist Lindsey Stirling and experimental video collective CDZA.

The six categories include Video of the Year, which will honour the videos with the most fan engagement, and Artist of the Year, based on the most watched, shared, liked, and subscribed to acts.

There’s also a Response of the Year category for the best fan remix, parody or response video, and a YouTube Phenomenon award that recognises the “phenomena that generated the most fan videos” – ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Harlem Shake’ both look like strong contenders there. [via Pitchfork; Billboard]
