Madchester hero turned alien hunter Shaun Ryder has had a curious old life – and now television producers have come a-knocking.

Back in 2011, the former Happy Mondays/Black Grape frontman released his tell-all autobiography Twisting My Melon. As one might expect, it wasn’t short of incident: notable stories include tales of dealing E to squaddies in the Haçienda, Ryder kidnapping some oik after finding him trying to rob his tour bus, and, of course, lots of different stories about lots of different drugs.

As The Guardian report, the book is now set to be adapted for television. ITV are currently planning to serialise the book, and appear to be casting the project. Rob James-Collier (of Downton Abbey and Coronation Street) is one of the names being bandied about to play Ryder, with Shameless‘ Elliott Tittensor also getting some buzz.

Ryder’s life and times were previously touched on in Michael Winterbottom’s brilliant 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, which plotted the rise and fall of Tony Wilson’s Factory Records. Who’s next, we wonder?
