There were so many records reissued this year that I had spent years on the hunt for. The Venom P Stinger, Jefferies and Snapper LPs were long overdue attempts to make some of the greatest anti-social rock from the southern hemisphere available again. Ideologic Organ and Recollections GRM each reissued some absolutely massive slabs of outré classical music… And the Ruth White reissue, while very under the radar, is an amazing and essential piece of early electronic music. The Medico Doktor Vibes and Palmer Rockey LPs were both endearing and creepy articulations of real people trying to do something meaningful… The David Tudor and Unwound boxes are both amazing documents that collect a lot of previously-released material that I already have and added a whole lot of extra music, history and artwork… Finis Africae was probably the most revelatory release of the year. The odd tropical synth explorations sounded entirely new to me and ended up leading me into digging a bit more into the whole “fourth world” world of music thanks to some guidance from Matt from RVNG.
