Dave Grohl to document historic studios in new HBO show

The Foo Fighter takes the Sound City approach on the road.

Antiquiet reports that Dave Grohl has landed an HBO that will see the Foo Fighter travel to historic studios across the country to document their stories, in the same vein of his directorial debut Sound City.

Grohl has visited DC’s Inner Ear Studios, Steve Albini’s Electrical Studio, and Butch Vig’s Studio 606, interviewing the likes of Heart’s Nancy Wilson, guitarist Joe Walsh, punk legend Ian Mackaye, and Paul Stanley from KISS. Antiquiet notes that the Foo Fighters have been at each stop as the band records its eighth album, suggesting that the HBO show could be related to the album.

Late last year, Grohl told Rolling Stone that the Foo Fighters were “doing something that nobody knows about, it’s fucking rad… We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before.”
