Casab

Out with The Strokes, in with The Voidz.

Five years ago, drawling Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas turned out his debut solo album, Phrazes For The Young – a zippy collection of saccharine synth-pop that got a friendly, if not exactly ecstatic, critical response.

After a number of hints and sneak drops, Casablancas has now released some concrete details about his second solo effort, this time credited to Julian Casablancas + The Voidz. The album is called Tyranny, and comes with some chess-inspired artwork. A soupçon of music from the album is also available to sample below.

According to Casablancas, the album will be an anti-corporate affair:

“Tyranny has come in many forms throughout history. Now, the good of business is put above anything else, as corporations have become the new ruling body. Most decisions seem to be made like ones of a medieval king: whatever makes profit while ignoring and repressing the truth about whatever suffering it may cause (like pop music, for that matter).”

Casablancas has also announced a string of US tour dates under the Voidz moniker; scroll to the foot of the post to see the full itinerary.

Tyranny will arrive on September 23 through Casablancas’ own Cult imprint.
