…although only a “small percentage of US users” will see the change.

Rejoice – the ever-resourceful folks over at Twitter have worked out another new way of shilling you stuff. As Pitchfork report, the service is currently testing out a new in-app “buy now” button, which will allow users to purchase music without leaving the site interface.

The service will be provided by online payments service Stripe, and will also offer exclusive music and merchandise, only available through Twitter’s iOS and Android apps. To start with the button will be visible to a fraction of US users, although that number will reportedly “grow over time”.

The service is being trialled with a number of artists, including Pharrell, Eminem, Death From Above 1979, The New Pornographers, Wiz Khalifa, Megadeth, and more. Other organisations trying out the service include GLAAD, Global Citizen, (RED) and DonorsChoose.

To finish, here’s some brandspeak from Twitter’s head of commerce, Nathan Hubbard:

“What we see today are conversational relationships that already exist between brands, artists and charities and our users with conversations happening every single second, frequently in service of a transaction. Now, where appropriate, we’re making that conversation transactional.”

Splendid.
