Aphex Twin looks set to crack the UK Top 10 for the first time.

As NME report, Syro is currently sitting at No. 2 in the midweek charts, behind former Mercury winners Alt-J’s sophomore album This Is All Yours.

At present, it looks like RDJ is unlikely to bag his first ever No. 1 – This Is All Yours is currently 9000 copies clear of Syro. That said, it looks almost certain Syro will be his best ever chart performance by some way: his highest charting record is, somewhat surprisingly, Selected Ambient Works Vol. II, which made it to No. 11 way back in 1994.

Leonard Cohen’s Popular Problems is currently at No. 3 in the chart. More specialist propositions tend to sell well in the first few days of release, and slip behind in the second half of the week, but fingers crossed Syro gets a late surge.

Head here to stream the album, or alternatively check out FACT scribe Joe Muggs’ first take on the album (or, indeed, peruse our 50 best Aphex Twin tracks rundown.)

Update: Syro entered the UK charts on Sunday at No. 8 – not the Top 3 position fans might have been hoping for, but still his best chart performance to date. No shame in being beaten by Barbara Streisand, we’d say.
