The 24-year-old could face up to a year in prison.

At last year’s New York’s Electric Zoo Festival, two people died due to MDMA-related causes: 23-year-old Jeffrey Russ and 20-year-old Olivia Rotondo. The man who sold Mr. Russ and his friends the pills, Patrick Morgan, was arrested earlier this year and has now plead guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute narcotics.

While the the charge carries a maximum potential sentence of 20 years, Morgan will likely face less than a year in prison due prosecutors and his defense lawyer agreeing to a stipulated sentencing guideline range. Sentencing is scheduled for March 13; Morgan is currently free on bail.

“This office remains committed to aggressively pursuing and prosecuting those who peddle this extremely dangerous drug,” said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in a press release.

Electric Zoo went on as planned this year, but attendees had to watch an awkward anti-drug PSA before entering. [via THR]
