The footage is adapted from David Hartt’s 2014 installation, The Republic, which Prekop provided music for.

This week The Sea And Cake’s Sam Prekop has released the solo album The Republic. One of the strongest moments on that record comes from the cosmic synth exercise of ‘Weather Vane’, but even though this is music that reaches into the stratosphere the video uses it as the soundtrack to David Hartt’s tender look at a busy city.

Hartt captures moments from his city both big and small, giving equal attention and power to a bustling building, people flipping over a totaled car, a flower growing or an old dog sleeping. Though many of these images could seem mundane out of context they gain power when arranged together.

Watch the video below and grab The Republic via Thrill Jockey today.
