The inimitable Icelandic singer returned to the stage for the first time in eighteen months.

Björk debuted the first live performance of her new Vulnicura LP over the weekend. The iconic chanteuse kicked off her tour at Carnegie Hall in New York City, backed by a fifteen-piece string section.

Björk performed in front of a backdrop of projected “animated notations” of each track, created by artist Stephen Malinowski. Along with subtitles of the lyrics, the accompanying images were essentially animated sheet music.

You can see some of the animation in the footage below. One of the videos also includes a full recording of the first live rendition of ‘Stonemilker,’ performed alongside Arca.

On Sunday, BBC 6 Music premiered an hour-long Björk documentary to celebrate the singer’s new album.

The first European performance of Vulnicura will take place at Manchester’s International Festival on July 5. [via CoS]
