The star’s children claim his manager stole money and neglected his medical needs.

Several of B. B. King’s heirs have vowed to challenge the blues legend’s will and the actions of his longtime manager, who is also the executor of his affairs.

A lawyer for the family members, Larissa Drohobyczer, issued a statement on Saturday alleging that LaVerne Toney had misappropriated millions of dollars, had “undue influence” over King’s affairs and was not fit to serve as executor of the estate. Five of King’s daughters – Patty King, Michelle King, Karen Williams, Barbara King Winfree and Claudette King Robinson – and several other heirs are behind the action. Toney told Associated Press that she would not immediately respond.

Earlier this month a similar dispute was thrown out of court by a Las Vegas judge. Three of King’s children said they suspected Toney was stealing money and neglecting King’s medical needs while blocking them from seeing their father, but the judge ruled there was no evidence of abuse. Toney and her attorney, Brent Bryson, denied the allegations. “It’s all about money,” Bryson said. “Mr. King is no longer out able to tour at this particular time so there’s no money coming in. The only way they can get money now is by filing a frivolous type of action.”

King died at home in Las Vegas earlier this month aged 89. His body will be flown back to Memphis, Tennessee, next week for a public viewing ahead of his funeral on Saturday. [via Guardian]
