The website of Volcanic Tongue, the Glaswegian underground outpost that announced its closure earlier this year, is going to be archived by the British Library.

The shop was run by Heather Leigh Murray (of Kranky avant-psych act Charalambides and others) and her husband, writer David Keenan, who penned the majority of the descriptions of albums and singles stocked by the shop. Those descriptions total some two million words covering a decade of avant-garde releases from the fringes of the underground, from private press oddities to hand-made CDRs and unusual cassettes.

The website was nominated and accepted for the Web Archive Project, a British Library project which conserves notable UK websites, The Wire reports.

The shop and its mailorder service are currently being wound down due to the couple’s other commitments; Murray has several new releases on the horizon and Keenan has finished his debut novel, The Comfort Of Women.
