Suge Knight’s attorney has returned to court to argue that the rap mogul’s bail should be reduced from $10 million.

Knight’s attorneys say the bail amount is excessive, but prosecutors argue the figure is appropriate given his criminal history and failure to appear for court hearings previously. Knight was already on bail for a felony robbery charge when he ran over two men, killing one and seriously injuring the other, outside a Compton burger joint in January. His bail was initially set at $25 million but reduced to $10 million after a preliminary hearing in April.

TMZ now reports that Knight’s new attorney, Tom Mesereau – who previously represented Michael Jackson – has tried to get better jail conditions for his client. Mesereau claims Knight is being driven to the brink by the toilet in his cell, which flushes every 20 minutes throughout the day and night.

More dramatically, Mesereau says Knight is suffering from numbness on one side of his body and doctors have told him he might have a brain tumour. He wants to be upgraded to a cell with access to better medical facilities.

He’s seeking an evaluation by a private medical doctor, but Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen has already said he is inclined to deny the request. [via Associated Press]
