“I know they are illegal, but at the same time there’s no harm being done in these empty buildings.”

Aa Freedom To Party event took place outside Shoreditch Overground station on Saturday afternoon to protest against a perceived police crackdown on illegal raves in London.

As reported by the Evening Standard, the organisers of the event wanted to bring attention to police seizing their equipment and shutting down parties, which are often held in abandoned buildings in and around the capital. The most notable recent clash between police and ravers occurred in November last year at the Scumoween rave in Lambeth.

The event appears to have gone down without a hitch, reflecting the organisers’ desire to show the peaceful side of raving. However, it doesn’t seem the 2,000 plus people who clicked ‘Going’ on Facebook showed up. Watch a video of the event below (try making it full screen if it’s not loading).
