The avant-rock maverick put on a celeb-studded show.

John Cale performed The Velvet Underground & Nico in full at a concert in Paris on Sunday night, joined by guest performers including Animal Collective, Mark Lanegan, Pete Doherty and Carl Barât of The Libertines, Lou Doillon, Etienne Daho and Lemon Jelly’s Nick Franglen.

He also threw in a few songs from the VU’s second album, White Light/White Heat. Watch fan footage from the concert, including ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ with Daho, ‘Femme Fatale’ with Doillon and ‘White Light/White Heat’ with Doherty and Barât, below.

Cale recently released M:FANS, a reworking of his 1982 album Music For A New Society. Check out a documentary about the lifelong innovator putting together the world’s first drone orchestra.
