Lindstrøm’s Six Cups Of Rebel LP is about to get the remix treatment.

Smalltown Supersound, Pitchfork note, are to release a 12″ of fresh interpretations of tracks by the Norwegian space explorer. Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and Emeralds’ Mark McGuire both get the call, as does Daniel ‘Oneohtrix Point Never’ Lopatin. The OPN take on ‘Call Me Anytime’ is now available to stream in full, and it’s a curious and beautiful piece.

Oneohtrix Point Never is frequently a resourceful and surprising remixer (take his mesmerising take on Gonjasufi ‘Gone’, for example). Here, Lopatin investigates the same sort of lush territories he previously probed on Replica opener ‘Andro’. Over a Gas-indebted Wall Of Sound, Lopatin slices and scatters Lindstrøm’s vocals. Dismembered synth and guitar figures twitch, writhe and dissipate. Beck’s office might have trouble with some of his work, but we’ll always welcome Lopatin with open arms if he keeps turning out music this transportive.
