Ron Howard’s Jay Z movie slated for theatrical release.

Made In America, the concert documentary that followed Jay Z as he planned and headlined a two-day festival in Philadelphia last year, is headed for the big screen. Phase 4 Films has acquired North American rights to the movie, with plans to get it in cinemas in summer 2014.

The film, which features performances by Drake, Pearl Jam, Run DMC, Passion Pit, Calvin Harris, Janelle Monae and Skrillex, was initially broadcast on the Showtime channel this October.

This year’s edition of the Made In America festival featured sets by Beyoncé and Nine Inch Nails along with Queens of the Stone Age, whose frontman Josh Homme later sounded off about the Budweiser-sponsored festival’s corporate attitude, labelling Jay Z a “kook”.

In other Jay news, the rap mogul is currently facing a copyright dispute over his 2009 single ‘Run This Town’, while his collaboration with Barneys has been under the microscope after the luxury department store was accused of racially profiling its customers. [via Billboard]
