The unconventional portaloo is at the festival to raise awareness for WaterAid.

In case the experience of going to the toilet at Glastonbury wasn’t hellish enough, this year’s festival has a see-through toilet to contend with.

Before you panic, things aren’t quite what they seem – the toilet door actually has a two-way mirror which lets you see out, but doesn’t let the queueing hordes outside see in.

There's a see-through toilet at Glastonbury this year

The ‘Loo With a View’ has been installed by international development charity WaterAid to give people an idea of what life is like for the 2.5 billion people around the world without access to a safe, private toilet.

“This installation will allow a brief glimpse into the lives of those who have nowhere safe to go to the toilet and often suffer the indignity of being stared at, harassed or even attacked,” said WaterAid’s Chris Wainwright. “This is an issue that particularly affects women and girls who often have to wait until dark to defecate in the open, making them more vulnerable to abuse.”

The charity hopes to collect 40,000 signatures at the festival to call on the government to sign up to a “dedicated Sustainable Development Goal on water and sanitation” at the UN General Assembly this September. You can find out more about the charity’s Make It Happen campaign at the WaterAid website.

If you want more unconventional Glastonbury toilets, Legoland Windsor recently recreated the festival in Lego. [via i100]
