Roland has released a software version of its System-1 keyboard, originally introduced as part of the company’s AIRA line last year.

Despite the keyboard having a “plug out” capability that allows emulations of classic Roland keyboards to be loaded into the instrument, the synth also has a unique on-board engine of its own.

As well as allowing anyone to use the System-1 in software form, the program also allows owners of the hardware to create and store their own synth patches using the editor and librarian functions.

Roland has also released the latest of its plug-out synths, a recreation of the classic SH-101. It was previously available as a free download to System-1 owners, but it’s now available for anyone to buy – both are available from the Roland webstore.

Roland has also released a video outlining the latest features of the recent version 1.20 update for the System-1 – you can check that below.

Roland aren’t the only company to be reviving classic synths – this week Yamaha announced its Reface line of keyboards.
