Ryuichi Sakamoto and Taylor Deupree will release a new live record, recorded in London last year.

Sakamoto’s career dates back to the 1970s, releasing proto-electronic and synth-rock records both solo and with the Yellow Magic Orchestra. He’s worked with artists as disparate as Fennesz and David Bowie, and is acclaimed as a soundtracker, scoring films such as 1983’s Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.

Deupree is a sound artist, graphic designer and, like Sakamoto, a serial collaborator. The pair released a live album with Illuha earlier this year, recorded in summer of 2013 as part of the Yamaguchi Center For Arts And Media’s 10th anniversary celebrations. This recording is more recent, documenting 2014’s performance at London’s St John Sessions. In their words, the recording “was notable not only for their kinetic understanding on stage, but for the unforgettable soundscapes created by the church space.”

Live in London will be released on ThirtyThree ThirtyThree, a new label by St John Sessions and The Vinyl Factory. It’s released on October 5, and can be preordered here. Sakamoto recently returned to music after a haitus spent recuperating from a throat cancer.
