In the studio with Torn Hawk: How he made new album Union And Return

“I wanna do something where I don’t really know what I’m doing.”

New Jersey-born audio-visual artist Luke Wyatt returned earlier this year with an album inspired by 19th century landscape painting. Ditching the irony, distortion and electronic collage of his previous records in favour of “lush and ornate” compositions, the record is different for the man known best as Torn Hawk, but every bit as beguiling as we’ve come to expect from him. We caught up with Wyatt as he brought the romanticism and fantasy of Union And Return to life with a team of musicians, explaining to FACT his mission statement when it came to the record and the Mad Max meets sci-fi origins of its strange artwork. Watch the video below.

Union and Return is out now – pick it up via Mexican Summer here and be sure to revisit Torn Hawk’s FACT mix.
