Guests travelling to Obonjan have been told not to travel if arriving before August 3.

Croatian festival island Obonjan has been forced to postpone its first week of events after admitting the island is without electricity and running water on the day it was meant to open.

As RA reports, guests due to arrive at the island before August 3 have been advised by its owners not to travel. Those affected are asked to contact their team to reschedule their trip for later in the season or get a refund.

The company is currently working to find accommodation for those who have already arrived in Croatia. A full statement with information for those affected can be found on Facebook.

Obonjan was purchased by UK promoter Sound Channel in 2015. Located near Sibenik on the Dalmatian coast, the island experience is billed on the official website as “your summer holiday with a festival twist.”

Sound Channel, which is the company behind Croatia’s Unknown Festival, said of the project last year: “We’ve been working on this project for three years which has given us time to carefully refine our ideas.

“Our vision for the island of Obonjan is to regenerate the island and turn it into a truly unique concept, combining art and music, wellness, sustainable living, amazing food and drink and fun and creative accommodation, all on an idyllic island paradise.”

Events were due to kick off today (July 28) with performances from DJ Shadow and Machinedrum. Anderson. Paak, Floating Points, Gold Panda and Jessy Lanza are also billed the season, which runs until September 6.
